Bed Bug Preparation Service

Preparation is Essential
(This service is based on bed bug chemical treatments - not heat treatments)
Dealing with bed bugs is stressful enough. Preparing your home for treatment can make it even worse.
Most people don’t realize how physically demanding and time-consuming proper preparation actually is. It’s not just moving a few things around—it often involves lifting and relocating heavy furniture, emptying entire closets and dressers, bagging large amounts of clothing, and reorganizing your living space in a very specific way. For many people, this can take hours—or even days—to complete properly.
On top of that, there’s the mental stress. Bed bugs don’t just stay in obvious places like beds. They can hide in areas most people would never expect—inside wall voids, behind furniture, inside outlets, within stored items, and deep within clutter. If preparation is done incorrectly, there is a real risk of:
- Spreading the issue to other areas of the home
- Blocking access to key treatment zones
- Causing your treatment to be delayed or rescheduled
This is where DURR SERVICE comes in.
Why Hire DURR SERVICE
We are not movers—and we are not a cleaning company.
We are experienced pest control technicians who understand bed bug behavior and treatment requirements. Through real, hands-on experience, we’ve seen how often treatments are delayed or less effective simply because preparation was incomplete or done incorrectly.
That’s why we created a service focused on the other side of pest control—the preparation process.
We take on the entire workload for you, ensuring your home is properly prepared according to real treatment standards so your pest control provider can do their job effectively.
What We Do (Full Preparation Process)
Our service is detailed and structured to meet actual treatment requirements—not guesswork.
🧺 Clothing & Bedding Bagging
We:
- Remove clothing and bedding from closets, drawers, and storage areas
- Place all items into heavy-duty bags
- Seal all bags tightly
- Apply clear labels, such as:
-
- “WASH & DRY BEFORE REUSE”
- “DO NOT OPEN UNTIL AFTER TREATMENT”
Why this matters:
Bed bugs can hide in fabrics and stored items. Bagging and sealing prevents them from spreading and ensures items are properly contained for laundering.
🛏️ Bed & Bedroom Preparation
We:
- Strip all bedding
- Ensure mattresses and box springs are fully accessible
- Reposition beds away from walls
- Prepare surrounding furniture for treatment
Why this matters:
Beds are primary harboring areas. Full access is required for proper treatment and long-term effectiveness.
🛋️ Furniture Movement & Placement
We:
- Move furniture approximately 2–3 feet away from walls
- Reposition items such as:
- Dressers
- Nightstands
- Couches
- Entertainment centers
- Ensure nothing is blocking treatment zones
Why this matters:
Bed bugs commonly hide along baseboards and behind furniture. Technicians must have space to access and treat these areas properly.
📦 Clutter Control & Organization
We:
- Consolidate and organize items
- Stack belongings neatly in central locations or designated areas
- Create clear pathways throughout the unit
Why this matters:
Clutter provides hiding places and blocks treatment access. Organized placement allows technicians to treat the entire space effectively.
🔌 Electrical Outlet & Wall Void Access
We:
- Ensure outlets and surrounding areas are accessible
- Confirm devices are unplugged where necessary
- Vacuum all baseboards
Why this matters:
Outlets and wall voids are common bed bug hiding areas due to heat and small gaps. These areas must be accessible for treatment.
🚪 Full Unit Preparation
We prepare the entire home, not just the area where activity was noticed.
Why this matters:
Bed bugs do not stay in one place. Partial preparation can lead to:
- Missed areas
- Continued activity
- Reinfestation
Scheduling & Walkthrough Requirement
Every unit is different. Because of this, all bed bug preparation services require a scheduled walkthrough before booking.
During the walkthrough, we assess:
- Unit size
- Level of clutter
- Volume of items
- Overall workload
This ensures accurate pricing and proper planning.
Important Guidelines
- All items will be bagged and sealed during preparation
- Bagged clothing and bedding should be taken to a laundry facility and washed and dried
- Drying is the most important step, as heat is what kills bed bugs
- After washing and drying, items should be placed back into clean bags
- All bags must remain sealed until after ALL treatments are completed (typically two visits)
- If items need to be removed, do so quickly and reseal bags immediately
What We Do Not Do
- We do not perform pest control treatments
- We do not wash or dry clothing (we DO offer to heat treat clothing as an additional service - info can be found under "PRICING")
- We do not remove trash or provide full cleanouts
- We do not return furniture to original placement after treatments (we DO offer to do this as an additional service - info can be found under "PRICING")
Why This Service Matters
Proper preparation is not optional—it is critical.
Without it:
- Treatments can be delayed
- Results can be reduced
- The problem can persist longer than necessary
With DURR SERVICE, you eliminate the guesswork and the physical burden, and ensure your home is prepared the right way—before the treatment even begins.
